Hungary has published a decree for third-country nationals who aren’t citizens of the EU or EEA countries. Under this rule, all visa applicants must now submit a valid Hungarian residential address when starting the application process. Guest investors can use their authorized representative’s office or home address as their residential address.
But regular workers won’t get this benefit and are about to face tighter controls. This includes stricter requirements of documents like proof of income.
The new decree also brought changes to the White Card, Hungary’s residency permit for remote workers. Under the new rule, the bar is raised for applicants. Now, individuals must earn at least EUR 3,000 per month over the six months before applying.
The Hungarian government says this threshold will ensure financial self-sufficiency for digital nomads. White Card holders also need to maintain the same income level to renew the residence permit. The new rule will be effective from 15 July, 2025.
